How to use this spelling worksheet maker

Type or paste your spelling list, separated by commas or new lines. Words can be 2 to 12 letters long, and you can use up to 15 words. Then choose an activity:

  • Fill in the missing letters: about 40% of each word is blanked out, never the first letter, with a word bank for support.
  • Unscramble the words: letters are mixed up and children write the correct spelling.
  • Word search: words are hidden in a letter grid. Easy puzzles run across and down, medium adds diagonals, and hard adds backwards words.

A simple weekly routine

  1. Monday: read the words together, talk about tricky parts, and do the fill-in-the-blank sheet.
  2. Wednesday: unscramble sheet, then write each word from memory.
  3. Friday: word search as a treat, then a quick practice test.

Teaching tips

  • Look, say, cover, write, check. This classic routine helps children picture words, not just copy them.
  • Group by pattern. Lists that share a spelling pattern (like -ight or -tion) teach more than random words.
  • Keep it positive. Celebrate words spelled correctly before fixing mistakes, and let children check their own work with the answer key.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my child’s school spelling list?
Yes, that’s exactly what this is for. Paste the list and print your chosen activity.
Why were some words left out of my word search?
Very long lists can run out of room in the grid. The maker tells you which words didn’t fit. Try fewer or shorter words, or split the list across two puzzles.
Are capital letters and punctuation allowed?
Words are converted to lowercase letters only, so spaces, numbers and punctuation are removed.
Is my word list saved anywhere?
Your words are kept only in the page link so the worksheet can be recreated. Nothing is stored on our servers.
