Math Flashcards

Digital flashcards that work like the paper kind, except the cards you miss come back for another try.

How to use the flashcards

Choose an operation (+, −, × or ÷) and slide to set the largest number. Press Start for a deck of twelve cards. Say the answer out loud, then tap the card to flip it and check. Tap I knew it! if you were right, or Practice again to send the card back into the deck a few cards later.

Nothing is saved or sent anywhere. Each deck is made fresh when you press Start.

Why flashcards work

Trying to remember an answer before seeing it is one of the most effective ways to learn. It’s called retrieval practice. Bringing missed cards back after a short gap adds spacing, which helps facts stick for longer than drilling the same card again and again.

Tips for using flashcards with children

  • Be honest with the buttons. Teach children that "Practice again" isn’t failing. It’s how the deck helps them learn.
  • Keep decks small. Twelve cards takes a few minutes, which is ideal for young attention spans.
  • Take turns. Let your child quiz you sometimes. Children love catching a grown-up’s mistake, and explaining the answer deepens their own understanding.
  • Mix operations over the week. Addition on Monday, subtraction on Tuesday, and so on keeps practice fresh.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print these flashcards?
These are on-screen only. For printable practice, use our math worksheet makers for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Do division cards have remainders?
No. Division cards are built from multiplication facts, so answers are always whole numbers.
How many cards are in a deck?
Twelve cards, plus any you send back with "Practice again".
How often should we use flashcards?
A few minutes most days works better than a long session once a week. Short, spaced practice helps facts move into long-term memory, and finishing a small deck gives children a quick sense of success.
