How to use this multiplication worksheet maker

For multiplication, the smallest and largest numbers set the range of the factors. Setting 1 to 12 with Times table: Mixed gives mixed times-table practice, or pick a single table such as the 6 times table to focus on it. To focus on easier tables first, try 1 to 5. For multi-digit multiplication practice, set a range like 10 to 99 and choose the stacked layout.

A sheet of 30 problems is a good fluency check for children who already know most of their facts. Choose 10 or 12 problems when a table is still new.

A good order for learning times tables

  1. Start with ×2, ×5 and ×10. They follow easy patterns (doubling, ending in 0 or 5, adding a zero).
  2. Move to ×3, ×4 (double the ×2 answer) and ×11 for single digits.
  3. Then ×6, ×9 and ×8. ×9 has a handy finger trick, and ×8 is ×4 doubled.
  4. Finish with ×7 and ×12. By now most of those facts are already known from other tables.

Teaching tips

  • Turn it around. 3 × 8 is the same as 8 × 3. Showing children this cuts the number of facts to learn nearly in half.
  • Use arrays. Rows of dots or objects show what multiplication means, which makes facts easier to remember and rebuild.
  • Mix in games. Pair a worksheet with our times-table quiz for quick, fun review on a phone or tablet.
  • Track progress, not speed alone. Accuracy comes first. Speed follows naturally with regular practice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a worksheet for just one times table?
Choose the table under "Times table", for example the 7 times table. Every problem will then be 7 × a number from your chosen range, such as 1 to 12.
What age learns multiplication?
Many children meet the idea of multiplication in grade 2 and work on times-table fluency through grades 3 and 4, but every curriculum and child is different.
Can I print multiplication worksheets with larger numbers?
Yes. Set the range up to 999 and use the stacked layout for multi-digit multiplication practice.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. Tick "Add an answer key page" and the answers print on a separate last page.
