What Grade 2 practice covers

Second grade stretches addition and subtraction to two-digit numbers, introduces the first times tables, and moves clock reading on to five-minute intervals. It’s also the year many children start to enjoy being timed.

Choosing the right settings

  • Two-digit addition and subtraction: set the range to 100 and choose the stacked layout, which lines up tens and ones the way children are taught to work them.
  • First times tables: in the multiplication maker, start with the 2, 5 and 10 tables. They follow skip-counting patterns children already know.
  • Telling time: move the clock worksheets to five-minute times, and switch between reading the clock and drawing the hands.
  • Money: the harder level of the counting money sheets mixes more coins in each box.

Mixing paper and games

Worksheets show you how a child is working; games build speed. After a multiplication sheet, a round of the Times Table Quiz on the same tables is a good check. Our guide to teaching times tables step by step explains which tables to add next.
