How to use this counting money worksheet maker

Choose the currency. Peso sheets use ₱1, ₱5, ₱10 and ₱20 coins, plus 25-sentimo coins at the harder level. Dollar sheets use pennies, nickels and dimes, with quarters added at the harder level.

The easy level shows two to four coins per box with simple values. The harder level shows three to seven coins and mixes in coins that make counting trickier. Coins are drawn in simple shapes and sized relative to each other, with the value printed on each one so children can focus on adding.

Teaching tips

  • Start with real coins. Let children handle and sort real coins before using worksheets. Talk about which coin is worth more, and notice that size doesn’t always tell you.
  • Biggest first. Coins on each sheet are shown largest value first. Teach children to start with the biggest coin and count on: "20… 30… 35… 36."
  • Skip count. Counting by 5s and 10s is the key skill behind counting coins. Practice it out loud in the car or at the shop.
  • Play shop. Price a few toys and let children "pay" with coins. It’s the best way to make money math meaningful.

Writing amounts

Peso totals are written like ₱27 or ₱27.25. Dollar totals under one dollar are written in cents (67¢), and larger amounts as dollars ($1.25). Show children both ways to write an amount once they are comfortable counting.
