How to use this addition worksheet maker

Start by setting the smallest and largest number. For children just learning to add, 0 to 5 keeps every sum on their fingers. Move to 0 to 10 once they know their number bonds, and 10 to 50 or 10 to 99 when they are ready for two-digit addition.

Choose Across for problems like 7 + 5 = ___, which build fact fluency. Choose Stacked when your child is learning to line up tens and ones, which prepares them for carrying (regrouping). Then press Print, or download a PDF to print later.

Teaching tips

  • Keep it short. Ten to fifteen problems a day beats one long packet a week. Stop while your child is still enjoying it.
  • Use objects first. Counters, blocks or snacks make sums concrete before children move to numbers alone.
  • Count on from the bigger number. For 3 + 8, start at 8 and count three more. It's faster and far less error-prone than counting both numbers from one.
  • Let them self-check. Hand over the answer key after they finish. Finding and fixing their own mistakes builds confidence.
  • Repeat a sheet. Print the same worksheet again next week using its link. Children love seeing how much faster they have become.

Which range should I choose?

As a rough guide, kindergarten children practice sums within 5 and then 10. Grade 1 works toward fluency within 20, and grade 2 adds two-digit numbers within 100. Every child is different, though. If a sheet takes more than about ten minutes or causes frustration, lower the range. If it's finished in two minutes with no mistakes, raise it.

Frequently asked questions

Are these addition worksheets really free?
Yes. You can print as many as you like for home or classroom use. There is no sign-up and no watermark on the printed sheet.
How do I print the same worksheet again?
Every worksheet has its own number, shown under the buttons and in the page link. Bookmark or share that link and the exact same problems will print again. Press "New problems" whenever you want a fresh set.
Can I print on A4 or long bond paper?
Yes. Choose A4, Letter (short bond) or Legal (long bond) under Paper size before printing or downloading the PDF.
Does the answer key print on the same page?
No, it prints on a separate final page so children can’t see it while they work. Untick "Add an answer key page" if you don’t need it.
